AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION IS WORTH A LOT TO HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS IN ORANGE AND SULLIVAN COUNTIES
Medical Practices Win Quality Awards from Hudson Health Plan for Practicing Preventive Medicine
(Tarrytown, NY)… Twelve medical practices in Orange and Sullivan Counties that immunize more children on a timely basis, screen more diabetes patients, and perform more timely prenatal and postpartum examinations, as compared to the average practitioner in New York State, were honored at Hudson Health Plan's Fourth Annual Appreciation Dinner for Physicians and Nurse Practitioners at the Gardens at Catlin Creek in Slate Hill, NY, on Oct. 24, 2006. The practices received quality awards based on these and other measurement data collected by Hudson Health Plan for the 2005 Quality Assurance Reporting Requirements (QARR) program administered by the New York State Department of Health. The winning practices will receive a bonus based on their performance.
Hudson Health Plan's pay-for-performance program encourages physicians and nurse practitioners to provide timely preventive care to its members. "It's been very successful," explains Janet Sullivan, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Hudson Health Plan. "As a result, more children covered by Hudson Health Plan are immunized and screened for lead poisoning, and more women members have regular mammograms and Pap tests. Now we are focusing on improving care for diabetes patients and children with asthma."
Tied this year for Top Performing Practice with 50 to 500 Hudson Health Plan enrollees were Access Medical Group in New Windsor and Ching-Rong Tsai, MD, of Monticello. The award for Top Performing Practice with more than 500 enrollees was given to Louis P. Rodrigues, MD, of Monticello.
